Thomas Jefferson was not only a statesman and scholar but also a man of refined tastes—including a deep appreciation for fine tea. His letters reveal his preference for Young Hyson, a delicate yet robust green tea with a smooth, slightly grassy character. This historically inspired blend offers the same refreshing taste that once graced the teacups of Monticello. Perfect for those who, like Jefferson, enjoy a thoughtful moment with a well-brewed cup.
Jefferson to John Barnes, a Philadelphia tea merchant and Grocer:
"Having the occasion for about 20lb of good tea annually, I think it is best to rely for the choice faith of some dealer in that article, both as to and no one do I rely more willingly on than yourself. I usually send to Philadelphia for my groceries once in a quarter, and will on those occasions ask of you a quarter's supply of tea. At present I will beg the favor of you to pack for me in a canister 5 lb of good tea, Young Hyson we prefer in flavour and strength, but if you have none good, let it be Hyson of the ancient kind."
